From Sevenmile Road, this route climbs along a narrow strip of USFS lands to the ridgeline of Sevenmile Hill. Know your route before going to avoid trespassing on neighboring private lands. Pull completely off Sevenmile Road as vehicles travel fairly fast down this road. Watch for rattlesnakes along the route up the hill.

Weather: Sunny skies early turning to hazy in the afternoon. Temperatures to 69 degrees. Winds very light. A very comfortable day!

Flower-filled slopes in the Columbia Hills State Park...........April 12, 2014. Carey's balsamroot (Balsamorhiza careyana), harsh paintbrush (Castilleja hispida) and Columbia Gorge lupine (Lupinus latifolius var. thompsonianus) are shown prominently in bloom. Oregon white oaks (Quercus garryana) are also beginning to bloom and leaf out. The lower two photos show views from the ridge top, with the photo at left viewed across Rowena towards the Cherry Orchard and western Columbia Hills while that at right is a view east towards the grassland slopes of Mount Ulka about half a mile away.
