Synonym: Claytonia perfoliata var. intermontana

Cuban spinach as seen at left in the Labyrinth in the central Columbia River Gorge..........April 10, 2010. This species has flattened to suberect basal leaves like streambank springbeauty (Claytonia parviflora ssp. parviflora), but the blades are rhombic or ovate as opposed to linear in the latter species. The similar miner's lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata ssp. perfoliata) has erect basal leaves with the blades oblanceolate, ovate or deltate.
The photo at right shows miner's lettuce along trails at the Lyle Cherry Orchard, just east of Lyle, WA.......March 11, 2022.

What appears to be cuban spinach as seen along the Memaloose Trail east of Mosier, Oregon..........March 27, 2015. If this isn't C. perfoliata ssp. intermontana, then it would be C. rubra ssp. depressa.
