Lookout Mountain is in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest on the eastern rim of Chief Joseph Canyon about 10 miles west of Coyote Campground.

* Hotrock Penstemon: Penstemon deustus (var. deustus, pedicellatus, or variabilis) - All 3 varieties are found in the canyon and I did not take the time to key the specimens out.

Payette Penstemon or Blue Mt. Penstemon: Penstemon (payettensis or pennellianus ?) - In bud. Looking at collection records, P. payettensis has been found on this side of Chief Joseph Canyon while P. pennellianus has been found on the opposite rim of the canyon near the Chief Joseph viewpoint. Sorry, but I didn't think to key this out to be sure which one it was.

Small-flowered Penstemon or Rydberg's Penstemon: Penstemon procerus var. procerus or Penstemon rydbergii - Not in flower yet to allow a positive identification.
