Lost Lake Wetlands and Wildlife Preserve, Okanogan Highlands Alliance.......July 12, 2015

Wetland fen at the Lost Lake Wetlands and Wildlife Preserve at the south end of Lost Lake.........July 12, 2015. Besides numerous sedge species, swamp birch (Betula glandulosa), mountain alder (Alnus incana), several willows and engelmann's spruce (Picea engelmanii) are some of the dominant species of the fen.

The area explored as part of Washington Rare Care Monitoring Weekend efforts was the uplands from the service road extending south from the kiosk down into the wetlands. This is an Okanogan Highlands Alliance property. They have short wetlands and upland trails which have descriptive signs about the flora and fauna, and some of their efforts to restore the property. Those wishing to hike further into the fen should contact the Okanogan Highlands Alliance (via the above link) to obtain permission prior to doing so.
