Northern gentian as seen near the high water mark of a wet meadow at an old reservoir about one mile uphill from Olive Lake, Umtatilla National Forest..........July 28, 2013. Typically this species displays a number of fringes or narrow appendages at the base of each petal. Photos online show none to many. Several of the petals shown here have a single fringe at their base. Flower color ranges from pale yellow to a light blue-tinge to lavender or violet.
