Bighead clover: Trifolium macrocephalum

The photo above shows a close-up of bighead clover (Trifolium macrocephalum) as seen at Catherine Creek on April 9, 2005. Plants have begun blooming at the elevations below the arch, while those in the valley below the powerlines have yet to bloom.

* Big-leaf Maple: Acer macrophyllum- Most trees now in bloom.

Taper-tip Onion: Allium acuminatum - Some plants seen in bud.

Ball-head Cluster Lily: Dichelostemma congestum - Basal leaves only.

Green-banded Mariposa Lily: Calochortus macrocarpus var. macrocarpus - Basal leaves only.

* Common Camas: Camassia quamash- Many in bloom.

* Chocolate Lily: Fritillaria affinis - Nice bloom.

* Bicolored Cluster Lily: Triteleia grandiflora ssp. howellii - A few beginning to bloom.

* Meadow Death-camas: Toxicoscordion venenosum var. venonosum- Common.

* Striped Coral Root: Corallorhiza striata - Several plants in bloom.

Common Bastard Toad-flax: Comandra umbellata var. californica- A with flower buds visible.

Heart-leaf Buckwheat: Eriogonum compositum var. compositum - In bud.

Strict Buckwheat: Eriogonum strictum var. proliferum - Basal leaves only seen.

* Bitterroot: Lewisia rediviva - A few plants beginning to bloom.

* Water Chickweed: Montia fontana var. tenerrima - Ending bloom.

* Line-leaf Montia: Montia linearis - A few in bloom.

Meadow Larkspur: Delphinium distichum - Basal leaves only seen.

* Upland Larkspur: Delphinium nuttallianum- Numerous.

* Shining Oregon Grape: Berberis aquifolium- Fairly numerous.

* Spring Whitlow Grass: Draba verna - Still numerous in places.

* Fringe Pod: Thysanocarpus curvipes- Common, but going to seed.

* Small-flowered Prairie Star: Lithophragma parviflorum - Fairly common.

* Northwestern Saxifrage: Micranthes fragosa - A few plants still in bloom.

* Rusty-hair Saxifrage: Micranthes rufidula - A few still in bloom.

* Columbia Gorge Lupine: Lupinus latifolius var. latifolius- A few in bloom at low elevation along the Old Highway at the west and east ends of the Catherine Creek plateau and a few with racemes forming.

Poison Oak: Toxicodendron diversilobum - Plants leafing out, many with immature flower buds forming.

* Cut-leaf Violet: Viola sheltonii- Good bloom.

* Small-flowered Willow-herb: Epilobium minutum ?

* Columbia Desert Parsley: Lomatium columbianum - Most are finishing their bloom period. One or two plants still in bloom.

* Klickitat Desert Parsley: Lomatium klickitatense - Very common.

* Bare-stem Desert Parsley: Lomatium nudicaule- Fairly common.

* Butterfly-loving (Pungent) Desert Parsley: Lomatium papilioniferum

* Nine-leaf Desert Parsley: Lomatium triternatum var. triternatum - A few in bloom.

Sweet Cicely: Osmorhiza sp. - Only leaves at this time.

Western Snake Root: Sanicula crassicaulis

* Sierra Snake Root: Sanicula graveolens - A few in bloom.

* Red-dead Nettle: Lamium purpureum - A few in bloom.

* Few-flowered Blue-eyed Mary: Collinsia sparsiflora var. bruceae - Common.

* Narrow-leaf Owl-clover: Castilleja attenuata - A few blooming plants seen.

* Barrett's Penstemon: Penstemon barrettiae - Flower buds forming on the upper cliffs near the arch and a few plants beginning to bloom on cliffs next to the old highway at the west end of Catherine Creek.

* Bedstraw, Cleavers: Galium aparine- A few in bloom.

* Rosy Plectritis: Plectritis congesta- Just beginning to bloom.

* White Plectritis: Plectritis macrocera - A few in bloom.

* Bigroot, Wild Cucumber: Marah oreganus- A few in bloom.

* Annual Agoseris: Agoseris heterophylla- Fairly numerous.

* Northwest Balsamroot: Balsamorhiza careyana x deltoidea- A few in bloom at lower elevations.

* Gold Stars: Crocidium multicaule -A few still in bloom.

Woolly Sunflower, Oregon Sunshine: Eriophyllum lanatum (var. lanatum ?) - In bud.

* False Agoseris, Prairie Dandylion: Nothocalais troximoides - Numerous.

* Common Dandylion: Taraxacum officinale- Fairly common in disturbed areas.
