Wildflower Bloom in the Columbia River Gorge of Oregon and Washington

Dog Mountain

May 11, 2002

White Western Groundsel: Senecio integerrimus var. ochroleucus

White Western Groundsel: Senecio integerrimus var. ochroleucus

The Dog Mt. Trail is a great, although challenging (3000' elevation gain in 3 miles) place to see wildflowers. Early summer flowers are commencing bloom below while early spring wildflowers are still abundant near the summit.

When hiking the Dog Mt. Trail, be prepared for all kinds of weather, as it changes rapidly. The parking lot on this day was 65* and sunny with a light breeze while the upper portions were bathed in clouds with a stiff, cool breeze. Many people had dressed only in shorts and t-shirts and they were literally freezing above 1500' in elevation.
