Wildflower Bloom in the Cascade Mts. of Washington

Panakanic: Private lands south of Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge

November 10, 2014

Panakanic......November 10, 2014.

Vernally moist meadows along upper Rattlesnake Creek at Panakanic..........November, 2014. Some of the meadows were mowed in August to control reed canary grass and allow camas and other wetland plants to have some fall growth or have sufficient sunlight when spring growth begins anew in late April.

This area is a large vernally moist meadow surrounded by coniferous forest in the mountains south of Conboy Lake Wildlife Refuge. This particular area is privately owned, and we were fortunate to obtain permission to visit. The area is full of small roads which can be tough to navigate (become lost on) and are rough for low-slung vehicles. Much of the surrounding public land is being logged this fall, so watch out for logging traffic and falling trees! Most smaller roads should not be driven with regular vehicles during or after rainstorms.
