The photo at left shows a close-up sideview of
the flower of long-bearded mariposa lily as seen at Conboy Lake NWR.........June
18, 2006. The flower of this species is lavender in color and more cup-shaped
than that of the
subalpine mariposa lily (
C.
subalpinus) which is cream-colored. It is smaller than that of the
green-banded mariposa lily (
C. macrocarpus)
which could potentially be found in the same habitat. The photo at center shows long-bearded mariposa
lily as seen in a dry meadow at Conboy Lake NWR..........June 18, 2006. Note
that the flower scape is about one-third to one-half longer than the basal leaf.
Plants were typically found with one flower, but there were a number of plants
