The photo above shows the inflorescence and paired leaves of red-osier dogwood as seen at the Klickitat Fish Hatchery to the southeast of Glenwood, WA....................May 29, 2006.

The photo above shows a close-up of the flower of red-osier dogwood. Variety occidentalis has petals that measure 3-4 mm long while those of variety stolonifera measure 2-3 mm long. These measure slightly longer than 3 mm.

The photo above shows a close-up side-view of the inflorescence of red-osier dogwood. The hairs within the inflorescence of variety stolonifera are largely appressed, while the minute hairs of variety occidentalis tend to be more erect or curled.
