The photo above shows a close-up of the flowerhead of northern mule's-ear as seen along Laurel Lane at the western edge of Conboy NWR.........June 18, 2006. This species looks similar to the balsamroots but is much more glabrous with a varnished appearance, and there typically are more flower heads on each scape.
