Kiger Gorge Viewpoint


This list was compiled between the following two GPS readings:

Kiger Gorge Overlook: N 42* 42.518' ---- W118* 34.504' ---- Elevation: 8904' --- +/- 18'

Summit Ridge that overlooks both Kiger Gorge & Mosquito Creek: N 42* 42.159' ---- W 118* 33.839' ---- Elevation: 9044' --- +/- 18'

Other than the upper parts of the cliffs, the ground at the Kiger Gorge viewpoint is free of snow. Bloom within the confines of the upper cirques and atop the top of the summit ridge is just beginning.

* Nuttall's Sandwort: Minuartia nuttallii var. fragilis

* Plantain-leaved Buttercup: Ranunculus alismifolius var. alismifolius

* Gordon's Ivesia: Ivesia gordonii - Only blooming on the rim overlooking Mosquito Creek.

Mountain Agoseris: Agoseris glauca (var. ?)

* Tall Pussytoes: Antennaria anaphaloides

* Rosy Pussytoes: Antennaria rosea

* Umber Pussytoes: Antennaria umbrinella

Low Sagebrush: Artemisia arbuscula

Lemon Sagewort: Artemisia michauxiana - In bud.

* Orange Sneezeweed: Dugaldia hoopesii

Discoid Goldenweed: Ericameria disoidea var. discoidea

Sticky-flower Green Rabbitbrush: Ericameria viscidiflora ssp. viscidiflora

* Scabland Fleabane: Erigeron bloomeri var. bloomeri - Only in bloom at the summit ridge.

* Cut-leaved Daisy: Erigeron compositus var. glabratus (Both discoid and with rays.)

Woolly Groundsel: Senecio canus - In bud.

* Dwarf Mountain Butterweed: Senecio fremontii - Only a few in bloom.

* Narrowleaf Goldenweed: Nestotus stenophyllus
