Orange sneezeweed as seen blooming along the Steens Mountain South Loop Road..........August 31, 2011.

Characteristics:

The large flat flower heads have a wide orangish central disk surrounded by 13-21 yellow-orange ray flowers. Leaves are long and narrow, alternate, with a base that does not extend along the stem. Plants to 3 feet tall. Flowers from June into August.


Habitat:

Orange sneezeweed is a wildflower of meadows, streamsides, moist open slopes and open woods in the mountains,from 1800-3350 meters in elevation.


Range:

Orange sneezeweed may be found from western Montana and Wyoming westward to the Steens Mt. of southeastern Oregon and south to New Mexico and California.
