Wildflower Bloom in the Cascade Mts. of Washington

Mt. Adams: Red Butte

July 24, 2005

The photo above shows a view of Red Butte as seen from the west at sunset on June 23, 2005. Red Butte is surrounded by relatively new lava flows which evidently emerged from the northeast side of Mt. Adams near the base of the Lyman Glacier.

This list is compiled of plants found within about 500' of the base of Red Butte. The few plants to be seen on the slopes of Red Butte were scoped with binoculars to protect the fragile vegetation since the slopes are steep and covered with very loose cinders.
