[Saxifrages: The Genera Micranthes and Saxifraga in Mt. Adams Country]

A small mat of alpine saxifrage as seen at left along rocks on steep north-facing slopes on the Ridge of Wonders.........August 12, 2006. The photo at right shows a close-up, dorsal view of the flower of alpine saxifrage as seen along the Highline Trail #114 near 6800' on the northeastern flanks of Mt. Adams..........July 23, 2005. Note the oblanceolate petals which are completely white, lacking any colored spots and the 10 petal-like stamens, capped by a tiny, rounded anther. The broad sepals, which are alternate to the petals, are green with thick white margins.

Note the tiny, red glands at the tips of the hairs on the pedicel. Note the thick, two-chambered pistil that is split and tapers gradually to the separate stigmas.
