This hike was part of the Western Study Weekend for the North American Rock Garden Society.

Today the weather was in the upper 30s to mid 40s in Gorge. There were intermittent sprinkles interspersed with sunshine. Fortunately the wind was very light until mid afternoon.

Medusa Head: Taeniatherum caput-medusae - Spent inflorescences from the previous year of this weedy grass.

* Long-anthered Woodrush: Luzula macrantha - In bloom beneath trees near the collapsed cabin along the creek.

Tapertip Onion: Allium accuminatum - Leaves only.

Narrow-leaf Onion: Allium amplectens - Leaves only.

Cluster Lily, Ookow: Dichelostemma congestum

* Pale-anthered Glacier Lily: Erythronium grandiflorum var. pallidum - One plant seen in bloom.

Chocolate Lily: Fritillaria affinis - Basal leaves.

* Yellow Bells: Fritillaria pudica

Panicle Death Camas: Toxicoscordion paniculatum - Basal leaves only.

Meadow Death Camas: Toxicoscordion venonosum var. venonosum - In bud.

* Grass Widows: Olsynium douglasii var. douglasii - Not yet at its peak.

Elegant Rein-orchid: Platanthera elegans - ? Too early to id this plant.

Heartleaf Buckwheat: Eriogonum compositum var. compositum

Scabland Wild Buckwheat: Eriogonum sphaerocephalum var. sublineare

Miner's Lettuce: Claytonia perfoliata

Bitterroot: Lewisia rediviva

* Lineleaf Montia: Montia linearis

Chickweed: Cerastium sp.

Meadow Larkspur: Delphinium distichum - Only leaves.

Upland Larkspur: Delphinium nuttallianum

* Western Buttercup: Ranunculus occidentalis var. occidentalis

* Oak Toothwort: Cardamine nuttallii

* Spring Whitlow-grass: Draba verna - Very numerous.

* Smooth Prairie Stars: Lithophragma glabrum

* Northwestern Saxifrage: Micranthes fragosa

* Rusty-hair Saxifrage: Micranthes rufidula - A few still in bloom.

Oceanspray: Holodiscus discolor

Spurred Lupine: Lupinus arbustus - Leaves emerging from the ground.

Small-flowered Lupine: Lupinus micranthus

Filaree: Erodium cicutarium

Poison Oak: Toxicodendron diversilobum

Cutleaf Violet: Viola sheltonii

* Columbia Desert Parsley: Lomatium columbianum

* Klickitat Desert Parsley: Lomatium klickitatense

* Biscuitroot: Lomatium macrocarpum - Yellow-flowered variety.

* Butterfly-loving (Pungent) Desert Parsley: Lomatium papilioniferum

* Salt and Pepper: Lomatium piperi - Numerous.

Yampah: Perideridia montana - Basal leaves only, so this is not a positive id.

Poet's Shooting Star: Dodecatheon poeticum - Many plants with flower buds. Will probably be blooming by next weekend.

Henbit: Lamium amplexicaule - In bud.

* Small-flowered Blue-eyed Mary: Collinsia parviflora

Common Monkey Flower: Erythranthe guttata

Barrett's Penstemon: Penstemon barrettiae

Annual Bedstraw: Galium aparine

Chicory: Cichorium intybus

False Dandelion: Hypochaeris radicata

False Agoseris: Nothocalais troximoides - Several plants in bud.

* Gold Stars: Crocidium multicaule - Fairly numerous.

Wallace's Selaginella: Selaginella wallacei

Podfern: Aspidotis densa

Gold-back Fern: Pentagramma triangularis -

Swordfern: Polystichum sp. (imbricans or munitum)
