Midget Phlox: Phlox gracilis

(Access Road from The Dalles Mt. Road to the Parking Area at the Trailhead for the Columbia Hills Natural Area Preserve)

*1. Yellow Bells: Fritillaria pudica: Fading below, in good bloom above.

*2. Douglas' Grass Widow: Olsynium douglasii (formerly Sisyrinchium douglasii)

*3. Spring Whitlow Grass: Draba verna: Common at all elevations.

*4. Filaree: Erodium cicutarium- A few in bloom at lower elevations.

*5. Pungent Desert Parsely: Lomatium grayi - Beginning to bloom.

*6. Bare-stem Desert Parsley: Lomatium nudicaule- A few in bloom.

*7. Salt and Pepper: Lomatium piperi- Numerous plants in bloom.

*8. Midget Phlox: Phlox gracilis (formerly Microsteris gracilis) - Moderately numerous.

*9. Small-flowered Blue-eyed Mary: Collinsia parviflora- Plants are small but fairly numerous.


Animals Seen along the Access Road to the Columbia Hills Natural Area Preserve:

1. Horned Lark- Many

2. Red-tailed Hawks

3. Ravens- several pairs

4. Kestrel

5. Northern Flickers - 2

6. Western Meadowlarks - Numerous

7. Turkey Vultures -

8. California Ground Squirrels
