Characteristics of the Figwort Family:

This family is characterized by having flowers having 5 united petals, usually forming a 2-lipped corolla, the base surrounded frequently by 4 to 5 united sepasl. The ovary is superior. The stamens are generally 4, but may be as few as 2 or as many as 5. The stems are round with leaves usually opposite.
