Unidentified bunchgrasses recovering from a July 2023 wildfire that swept through the canyon slopes on the east side of the Deschutes River. This particular site is along the Ferry Springs Trail about 200 meters southwest of the springs, Deschutes River State Recreation Area.....November 21, 2023. Native bunchgrasses may burn due to thatch that builds up at their base but will often survive most fires because they stay green in summer which helps lower the temperature as they burn, giving them a better chance at survival.
