Fremont-Winema National Forest - Useful Forest Service website with details about some forest trails and campgrounds. Contact the Silver Lake and Paisley Ranger District offices for answers to specific questions about trail and road conditions (especially early in the season) in the northern half of the forest. Contact the Lakeview Ranger District for questions specific to the forest west of Lakeview to the Gearhart Mt. Wilderness, Cottonwood Lake, Fishhole Lake Recreation Area, Dog Lake Recreation Area and areas between them.

Less Traveled Northwest: Day Hikes for the Adventurous - Has several trail or route suggestions for the area just south and southwest of Winter Ridge and west of Lakeview, OR.

100 Hikes/Travel Guide: Eastern Oregon by William L. Sullivan - This book has a description of hikes on Hager Mt, the Sprague River Railroad, Cougar Creek, Gearhart Mountain, Campbell and Dead Horse Lakes, Summer Lake, Silver Creek and Yamsay Mountain, Fort Rock Valley and Fort Rock. It should be available at many book stores that cater to hikers and nature enthusiasts. Obtain the latest edition for the most current information.
