Hoary Sagebrush, Silver Sagebrush: Artemisia cana ssp. bolanderi (Synonyms: Artemisia bolanderi, Artemisia tridentata ssp. bolanderi, Artemisia tridentata var. bolanderi, Seriphidium canum ssp. bolanderi) - Leaves linear, all or nearly all, entire.

Scabland Sagebrush, Stiff Sagebrush: Artemisia rigida (Synonyms: Artemisia trifida var. rigida, Seriphidium rigidum) - Leaves mostly deeply 3-5 cleft into linear segments. Leaves deciduous in winter. Inflorescence with flower heads sessile in the axils of the leafy bracts, the bracts generally much longer than the heads.

Big Sagebrush, Tall Sagebrush: Artemisia tridentata - Woody shrub, freely branched above, from 4-30 dm tall. Leaves gray, crowdedn narrowly cuneate with 3 rounded teeth or lobes on the blunt tip. Flower heads loosely spread out along the tips of the branches. The flower heads are soley discoid with 3-8 flowers per head.
