Chrysanthemum leucanthemum

Sunflowers have compound flowers, meaning that they are made of dozens to hundres of small flowers packed together. Each small dot you see in the center of the daisy above is really one small flower.

Habitat:

Roadsides, fields, disturbed areas


Characteristics:

1. Compound flower, made of many large white ray flowers and tiny yellow disk flowers in the center. Blooms from early spring to fall.

2. Common field plant grows from 1/2 to 1 1/2 feet tall.


Uses:

1. Escaped European weed with bitter taste (even unappealing to cattle).

2. Pretty field or roadside plant.
