Habitat:

East side of the Cascade crest in forests, rockfall, and campgrounds.


Traits:

1. Looks like a large chipmunk with a white stripe between 2 black stripes on each side of the back.

2. It lacks the eye stripes that the chipmunks have on their faces.

3. The head & shoulders are a rusty color.

4. Some may be fed by hand.

5. Incisor teeth aid in the gnawing of seeds and vegetable matter. They have been known to eat insects and other small mammals that they catch.
