The diagram below shows data about 2 populations of 2 species of Paramecium. The first graph shows the 2 species' population growth when kept in separate culture bottles. The second graph shows what happens when both species occupy the same bottle.

1. This is an example of interspecific competition because 2 species are involved. Intraspecific competition involves competitions for resources amoung members of the same species, as when many sunflower seedlings compete for sunlight, water, and minerals in the soil when they are planted too closely together.
