20. The reaction rate of enzyme reactions decreases as temperature increases above the optimum temperature for the enzyme because some of the enzymes begin to denature. This means the active site on the enzyme is changed enough in shape that it can't bind to its substrate, reducing the number of substrate molecules to react. When enough enzymes are denatured as temperature increases further, the reaction rate becomes zero.
