#9. Benedict's reagent is used to indicate the presence of simple sugars in a substance by turning from blue to green, yellow, red or orange when heated.

During an experiment, Benedict's reagent is dropped into distilled water with the resulting solution staying blue when heated.

This test is an example of a negative control because we are using water. We want to see what a negative reaction (one not containing simple sugar) would look like.
