#5. Iodine is used to indicate the presence of starch in a substance by turning from orange to black (or purple).

During an experiment, iodine is dropped into a starch solution with the resulting solution turning black.

This test is an example of a positive control we are using iodine with a known starch solution so we can see what a positive test for starch looks like.
