#13. Biuret's reagent is used to indicate the presence of proteins in a substance by turning from blue purple.

During an experiment, Biuret's reagent is dropped into beef broth with the resulting solution turning purple.

This test is an example of a test for the experimental variable because it is not water (so it can't be the negative control) and because it is an unknown substance that we might want to find protein in.
