[Chapter 8 Notes: Enzymes]

Noncompetitive Inhibition

When in high concentrations, the allosteric inhibitor binds to the regulatory site. This changes the shape of the enzyme, thus changing the shape of the active site, and thus preventing the enzyme from catalyzing its reaction. When the concentration of inhibitor decreases, the inhibitor leaves the regulatory site, and the active site then resumes its normal shape. The enzyme resumes catalyzing its reaction!
