12. It is difficult for large polar molecules like like some
carbohydrates and proteins to pass through part D
of the plasma membrane because the lipid molecules are fairly tightly packed
together, so large molecules would have difficulty passing through. In addition,
the interior of the plasma membrane at D is made of nonpolar fatty acids which
tend not to let large polar molecules through.
