Along stream or wet ground of woods
Characteristics:
1. Salmonberry is a relative of the raspberry and blackberry. It grows 4-10 feet tall, and has woody stems.
2. Prickles near bottom stems but sparse higher up. Serrated margins on 3-5 pinnate leaflets.
3. Single 1" magenta flowers bloom in April.
4. Large round orange to red (salmon) berry in late spring.
Uses:
1. Northwest salmon spawn in streams the same time as these blooms appear.
2. Edible berry dried, cooked or raw.
