Panakanick is a privately owned meadow in the mountains east of the White Salmon River in Klickitat River. The site was grazed and hayed from the late 1800s until about a dozen years ago. Despite the grazing and late season haying, the meadows still retains much of its pre-agricultural habitat structure. Numerous rare plants still can be found there, and during moister years, endangered sandhill cranes nest there. There is no legal public entry although one of the land owners will often allow either a Washington Native Plant Society or Native Plant Society of Oregon wildflower hike on the property each year. Check the Suksdorfia WNPS or Portland chapter of the NPSO websites in the spring for wildflower hikes at this location.
Please don't try to visit this area on your own as the owners of this site and adjacent lands don't like trespassers.
The meadows at Panakanick are owned by several private owners so I have not listed directions to this area.
