Field peppergrass as seen in gravels at the edge of the parking area for the Cherry Orchard Trail along Washington Highway 14 east of the Lyle Tunnels........April 28, 2011. Note the single erect stem which helps distinguish this species from Lepidium heterophyllum which has not been documented but could be expected in the Gorge. Several dichotomous keys state that one should be able to distinguish these two species by anther color (cream for L. campestre and purplish for L. heterophyllum, but I'm not sure that this characteristic reliably works all the time.
