Involucral bracts of Large-flowered Agoseris, Large-flower Goat-chicory: Agoseris grandiflora var. grandiflora (Synonyms: Agoseris cinerea, Agoseris grandiflora var. intermedia, Agoseris grandiflora var. plebeia, Agoseris intermedia, Agoseris laciniata, Agoseris marshallii, Agoseris obtusifolia, Agoseris plebeja)

The photo above shows a close-up of the involucral bracts of large-flowered agoseris as seen along Lakeside Road, Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge........July 2, 2007. The bracts of this species are noticeably imbricate, or staggered and arranged like tiles on a roof.

Basal leaves of Large-flowered Agoseris, Large-flower Goat-chicory: Agoseris grandiflora var. grandiflora (Synonyms: Agoseris cinerea, Agoseris grandiflora var. intermedia, Agoseris grandiflora var. plebeia, Agoseris intermedia, Agoseris laciniata, Agoseris marshallii, Agoseris obtusifolia, Agoseris plebeja)

The photo above shows a close-up of the leaves of large-flowered agoseris as seen along Lakeside Road, Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge.........July 2, 2007. The leaf lobes on this species spread outwards and forwards rather than backwards as in spearleaf agoseris (Agoseris retrorsa).

Seed head of Large-flowered Agoseris, Large-flower Goat-chicory: Agoseris grandiflora var. grandiflora (Synonyms: Agoseris cinerea, Agoseris grandiflora var. intermedia, Agoseris grandiflora var. plebeia, Agoseris intermedia, Agoseris laciniata, Agoseris marshallii, Agoseris obtusifolia, Agoseris plebeja)

The photo above shows a close-up view of the seed head of large-flowered agoseris. Note that the achenes taper gradually to the long thin beak. Photographed at about 2800' along Road K6000 at the southeastern corner of Mt. Adams. The seed head is very similar to that produced by the common dandelion, but much larger!

Achenes of Large-flowered Agoseris, Large-flower Goat-chicory: Agoseris grandiflora var. grandiflora (Synonyms: Agoseris cinerea, Agoseris grandiflora var. intermedia, Agoseris grandiflora var. plebeia, Agoseris intermedia, Agoseris laciniata, Agoseris marshallii, Agoseris obtusifolia, Agoseris plebeja)

The photo above shows a close-up view of the achenes of large-flowered agoseris. The beak is more than twice as long as the achene in this species. Note that the achene tapers gradually to the long thin beak. In other words, the achene is not squared-off where it meets the beak, which helps separate this species from spear-leaf agoseris (Agoseris retrorsa). Photographed at about 2800' along Road K6000 at the southeastern corner of Mt. Adams.
