The photo at upper left shows the involucral bracts of spearleaf agoseris. This is about as open as the flower head gets when the plant is in bloom. It's not the most showy of wildflowers. The photo at upper right shows a close-up of the achene (seed) of spear-leaf agoseris as seen along the Willard Springs Trail in Conboy Lake NWR..........July 2, 2007. Note that where the top of the achene attaches to the barb, the achene is squared off, a diagnostic feature of this species. The photo shows a basal leaf of this species. Note the
numerous long hairs towards the lower half of the leaf as well as the deeply
divided leaf with the lobes pointing outwards or slightly downwards towards
the base of the leaf. All 3 photos show spear-leaf agoseris
as seen at a DNR rock quarry at about 4100' abreast the ridgetop between the
Dairy Creek and Cougar Creek drainages on the southeast corner of Mt. Adams.........May
29, 2005.
