Alpine Lady Fern: Athyrium alpestre ssp. americanum - Plants of subalpine slopes. Indusium absent.

Subarctic Lady Fern: Athyrium filix-femina ssp. cyclosorum - Plants of moist, low- to mid-elevation forests. Indusium present.
