Two photos of both fresh and weather-worn anise swallowtails observed near the Klickitat Breaks, Klickitat Wildlife Area......May 26, 2020. The swallowtail at right is on bulbous bluegrass (Poa bulbosa).
The photo above shows the caterpillar of the
anise swallowtail (Papilio zelicaon) as seen on a branch along the Island
Springs Trail #66 on the eastern slopes of Mt. Adams...........August 11, 2006.
The photo above shows the caterpillar of the
anise swallowtail (Papilio zelicaon) as seen munching on the umbel rays of sharp-tooth angelica (Angelica arguta) at the trailhead to the Willard
Springs Trail in Conboy Lake NWR.........July 31, 2008. One caterpillar was conveniently located on each plant. Evidently the parent laid just one egg per plant.
