The Genus Streptopus

The photo above shows a close-up of the flower of rosy twisted stalk: Streptopus lanceolatus var. curvipes. Photographed along Crofton Creek beneath Crofton Butte on the south side of Mt. Adams................June 19, 2005.

1. Clasping-leaved Twisted Stalk: Streptopus amplexifolius var. amplexifolius - Tips of tepals strongly curved outwards from about mid-tepal. Tepals creamy white or greenish white. Leaf bases strongly clasping. Flower peduncles sharply angled downward at their middle. Plants 50-120 cm high.

2. Rosy Twisted Stalk: Streptopus lanceolatus var. curvipes (formerly Streptopus roseus) - Tips of tepals only curved outwards at the tip. Tepals rose-colored or reddish purple in color with whitish tips, or cream to greenish white with numerous reddish purple streaks or spots. Leaf bases sessile to slightly clasping. Flower peduncles glandular and gradually curved downwards. Plants 10-30 cm high.
