The Genus Gilia

 


Scarlet Gilia, Skyrocket, Skyrocket Gilia, Foxfire: Ipomopsis aggregata ssp. aggregata (formerly Gilia aggregata var. aggregata) - Bright scarlet-red, trumpet-shaped flowers line all sides of the flower stem for 1/2 to 1 foot above the basal, dissected leaves. A very showy species of open woods or open rocky slopes from low level to high elevations.

White Pollen Skyrocket: Ipomopsis aggregata ssp. formosissima (formerly Gilia aggregata var. ?) -

Pinnate Ballhead Gilia, Many-flowered Gilia: Ipomopsis congesta ssp. montana (formerly Gilia congesta var. montana) - Clusters of small (5mm wide) white or pinkish flowers on short stems. Leaves compound pinnate or compound palmate, dissected with very narrow leaflets. Wildflowers of open slopes, often found on ridgetops.
