Wildflower bloom along the Columbia Hills

Pale Wallflower: Erysimum occidentale as photographed in sand along Washington Highway #14 at MP 115.6.....................March 6, 2005.

Old Sand Quarry along Washington Highway #14 at MP 115.6

 

*1. Miner's Lettuce: Claytonia (Montia) perfoliata - Beginning bloom on the dunes.See photo below.

*2. Pale Wallflower: Erysimum occidentale - Some beginning to bloom.

3. Antelope Bitterbrush: Purshia tridentata - Leaves emerging en masse.

4. The Dalles Milk Vetch: Astragalus sclerocarpus - Leaves emerging from the sand.

*5. Midget Phlox: Phlox (Microsteris) gracilis - A few in bloom.

6. Sand-dune Penstemon: Penstemon acuminatus - Nice new green growth on the stems. No sign of budding racemes yet.

7. Sand-dune Broomrape: Orobanche ludoviciana - Numerous dried inflorescences from last year.

8. Northern Wormwood: Artemisia campestris var. scouleriana - Clusters of leaves emerging.
