Water Striders are common insects of quiet ponds and streams. The body of the Water Strider is long, narrowly elliptical in shape, with a blackish back and silvery white underside. The six legs are long and stilt-like. The long legs of these insects help support them as they skate across the water's surface. Water Striders are predators which prey on small insects, crustacea, or worms which may fall onto the surface of the water.
