Caddisflies are common insects found near sunny pools and ditches across the United States and Canada. The adults are short-lived and are often found in swarms during the summer months. The adults are about 20 mm long. The larvae are fully aquatic, and they make a protective case to surround their body. Some use sandy debris, while others make the case out of woody debris. Both the adults and young are favorite food of trout.
