Nucleotides (as shown above) are the building blocks or monomer forms of all nucleic acids. Many nucleotides that are bonded together in long chains form the larger nucleic acid.

Each nucleotide consists of 3 parts:

1. Phosphate group (shown in yellow above)

2. the 5 carbon sugar (shown in blue above)

and the 3. nitrogen base(shown in brown above)
