Characteristics:

1. Deep orange 4 petaled flower, showy. Bloom from late spring through summer.

2. Deeply cut (dissected) leaves at the base.

3. Light responsive flowers open with sunlight, close at night or on cloudy days.


Uses:

1. Offers forage for cows and deer.

2. Widely planted as a garden ornamental.

The photo above shows the leaf blade of California poppy. Most of the leaf blade is missing, leaving only a little bit of leaf around each vein. We call this type of leaf edge" dissected"!
