The above diagram illustrates an average plant cell. One must realize that not all plant cells will have all of the organelles seen above. Those plant cells found on the surface of the plant or on the leaves will typically contain chloroplasts, while those found deep within the stems or underground in the roots will lack chloroplasts. Leaf and vein tissues (in the roots or stems) may have smaller vacuoles or lack them entirely as their function is not to store sugar or other materials.
