Interphase is normally the longest phase of the cell cycle,
consisting of the G1, S, and G2 periods. During this time the cell grows, maintains
itself, and performs its function. At some point in this period, it replicates
its DNA, then it synthesizes new organelles in preparation for nuclear and cell
division.
