[Review of Conservation & Biodiversity Issues]

2. Two ecological reasons for the conservation of biodiversity include.........

a) ecosystems should be preserved to prevent erosion, flooding, silting of rivers, or even climatic change.

b) species and ecosystems should be preserved. Each member of a food web is interdependent on the others. Extinction of or diminishing one species has impacts on the whole food web.

c) native species are adapted to the local conditions. Introduced species are less adapted and thus less resilient over the long run.
