[Review of Conservation & Biodiversity Issues]

10. Two reasons why in situ conservation of a species may not work include..........

a) If the species still exists but its natural habitat has been largely destroyed, the species may need to be removed and protected via ex situ means.

b) If the species is so rare that it is unsafe to leave it in its natural environment, then it may need to be removed for its protection.

c) If the numbers of a species are very low, and humans are collecting or poaching it, thus putting it on the verge of extinction, the species may need to be removed to safer quarters.
