3. Nucleosomes help make DNA, a very
long molecule, fit into a small area (the nucleus). They also help condense
the DNA into an even smaller area prior to prophase so that the chromosomes
become visible, but more importantly so they can be moved about the cell during
mitosis without becoming snagged on other chromosomes and causing mistakes.
