13) Define the purpose of each of the three types of RNA. [3]
m-RNA: Carries the DNA code of a gene from the nucleus to the ribosome, so transcription can synthesize proteins. (Remember that DNA is too large to exit the nucleus to do the same job.)
t-RNA: Picks up amino acids in the cytoplasm and carries them to the ribosomes where the ribosome joins the t-RNA anticodons to the m-RNA codons so the amino acids are lined up in the correct order.
r-RNA: Makes up the ribosomes. There is one longer r-RNA that makes up the large ribosomal subunit and one shorter r-RNA that makes up the small ribosomal subunit.
